I had the absolute pleasure of creating 3 large golf-themed paintings for the Niakwa Country Club’s renovation project recently, and I’m super stoked about them all!

I called upon my studio homie Paolo to custom build me canvases to fit the space perfectly. He assembled the stretchers, primed the canvases and additionally I had asked him if he could paint them red for me as I wanted to cut down on the off-gassing of paint I was breathing in due to pregnancy. He did a fantastic job and I had the most beautiful canvases to work on.

I created each of the three pieces with the red ground technique. In this technique, you use red as your background and it peeks through in the most unexpected and magical ways. Little bits of red here and there create magic with the colours on the canvas ✨❤️.

This piece was based on a black and white photograph of Ben Hogan playing golf at the club in the 1940’s. I kept some elements of the original photo and updated others to give a more modern feel - with lots of colour!

This project had a very tight deadline and I’m very proud to have risen to the occasion being in my second trimester and raising a toddler at the same time!

We Love You Here represents the creation of a loving home. The title is drawn from the phrase "we love you here" that my husband and I shared in our relationship prior to our daughter being born. Before becoming parents, our "we" included one another and our house plants, and expressed our love for the home we built together. My experience of growing up without a positive relationship example inspired me to break that cycle for my children. I used many layers of acrylic paint to express depth in this work, paralleling my layered path to true love.

This concept was for a sweatshirt design. It started as a vision I had in the shower. I was trying to think about how I could share a meaningful message that would resonate with people. I decided that Love is the Future is what I wanted to share. I then spent time coming up with concept drawings that I eventually translated into a finished work of art. I wanted to include symbolism for love, floral aspects, and imagery that spoke of telling the future. In addition, I wanted the piece to have a unique organic border so that eventually it would integrate beautifully onto a sweatshirt. I made sure all the details were exactly how I had imagined, laying down each stroke of paint until I was satisfied. Once my painting was complete, I scanned it into the computer, stitched it together in Photoshop, and began translating it onto the sweatshirts.

This piece is a true labor of love. I hope wearing it can remind us to lead with love in our everyday lives.

This piece is about healing inner wounds and learning from life experiences. I wanted to make the dagger relatively small in proportion to the rest of the piece, as I wanted the focus to be more on the healing process and less on the pain itself. The doves and the butterflies represent the healing spirits, coming to repair the wound and uplift. I chose my colour palette to reflect a prism or rainbow to share the message of better times ahead.

Butterflies to me are always a positive sign, and whenever my husband and I see them on our walks we get all excited, as if they are bringing a special surprise message with them!

For this piece, I used different background colours to make certain areas of the painting pop, and allow other areas to draw back into the background. Then I used the paint colour opacities to further the illusion.

Yes, this is my husband, but no, this piece isn't really about him. It's about feeling your partner's (or loved one's) pain, and even though it can be hard, there is beauty in the connection.⁣

I've paired this piece with this quote: "When we have each other, we have everything."⁣

The flowers in this piece are from my wedding bouquet 💐. I wanted the expression to be stressed or pained, contrasting with the beauty of the flowers and the floating orbs showing that you can always find a positive in a difficult situation, even if you can't see it right away.⁣

"If Zeus Was Tender" depicts a surrealist portrait of Zeus, the God of Thunder, re-imagined as a tender, loving, modern-day hipster (who is most likely vegan). The piece features many references to the Classical Greek Mythological figure, from the olive branch in his man bun, to his delightful animal friends. Instead of the famous olive wreath crown from his past life, modern Zeus ties up his locks with a single olive branch, paying homage to his past all-mighty self, while honouring his current climate-changing environment. His beautiful eagle friend, traditionally an emblem of victory, sits on his shoulder reminding us that coming together as a community, together we win. In the classical story of Zeus, he transforms into a white bull to deceive others and satisfy his own desires. Tender Zeus is not interested in harming others or bad karmic practices. Instead, he kisses and cradles the bull for the magnificent creature that it is, spreading love and joy wherever he goes. His tattooed thunderbolt pays tribute to his dark beginnings, while the "like" of the eagle expresses the new digital age in which he thrives, tweeting and sharing his stories about love, empowerment, and respecting all living beings.

The piece expresses loss and sadness. I was feeling quite emotional while I painted it in quarantine. I wanted it to be an expression of melancholy, but still hold an underlying positive essence about feeling raw and vulnerable, and the beauty that lies within that state of being.

Art is an expression. I wanted this self portrait to express a feeling from inside about working from the heart. Hummingbirds have a history of bringing love and joy into life, and as this portrait is a snapshot of where I am today, I wanted the focus to be on exactly that (as opposed to fear and sadness). I am super thankful for all this time with my fiance Tonio, and the opportunity to wake up each day and decide where I want to put my energy.⁣

⁣These lupine flowers that surround me are one of the most attractive to hummingbirds 🌿❤. You will also notice a single ladybug hanging out on my glasses. For those of you who don't know, ladybugs (for me) are always a strong sign of good luck and good things to come.⁣

⁣I wanted to add a special element to this work, so I used this beautiful gold leaf. It was my first time working with gold leaf and it did NOT disappoint! I will be adding these beautiful shimmery touches to many paintings to come.⁣

The piece is about all the strange dreams I have. I often have what I refer to as "spiritual dreams", which feel completely different than your typical dream. In these spiritual dreams I am always in a world that is not this earth, it all feels very different, and usually I have a powerful animal come to me trying to convey some sort of message. Last time it was an eagle, a lot of times it's lions, once in a while it will be a specific dog breed. And every time I awaken, I always know I was somewhere else, and that dream holds meaning. Usually, I look it up 😏.

To my surprise, this piece turned out exactly how I had imagined it in my head, which quite literally NEVER happens.

Kismet Creek Farm is a family-run farm sanctuary near Steinbach, Manitoba. They offer visits with their residents to raise funds to further their rescue efforts and pride themselves on putting their animals’ physical, emotional and mental well-being first. Kismet’s goal is to promote compassion and respect for all species, and remove animals from the food system.

This piece has some of their past and present residents :). I had the pleasure of visiting the farm on Canada Day and it was the most magical experience being able to interact with all the animals. This artwork will help raise money for their heartfelt efforts.

This piece was created for my show Mystical Furry Friends which featured the adventures of the animals at Assiniboine Park and Zoo here in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I thought it would be cute to catch some deer playing and frolicking in the fountain. The Leo Mol Sculpture Garden has always been a favourite place of mine to walk and wander. :) This was the largest piece in the show.
